According to report from mtnfootball.com South African Coach Gordon Igesund has praised his makeshift 2013 COSAFA Cup team performance despite a semifinal shootout loss to Zambia.
Bafana Bafana lost 5-4 on post-match penalties to hosts Zambia after a gruelling 120 minutes of action that ended scoreless at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Wednesday evening.
Igesund said Bafana were unlucky not to win within the distance especially after hitting the post twice in the second half of their COSAFA Cup penultimate stage clash against the host nation. Hear him...
"It was a fantastic game. In the first half Zambia were better," Igesund said.
"In the second half we dominated and created a lot of good chances."
Ruzaigh Gamildien hit the post halfway through the second half while Lerato Chabangu too was also denied by the woodwork 10 minutes before time.
"I was very pleased besides that because it was only the second time that this team played together," Igesund said.
"And the fighting spirit and the commitment; I think that was very good.
"We dominated in periods of the game but Zambia defended very well.
"At the end of the day football was the winner but of course we are disappointed to lose in the semifinal because, like them, we wanted to be in the final with every game you play you want to be in the final."
Bafana now face Lesotho in Saturday’s third and fourth place playoff at Levy in the curtain-raiser for the final between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
